Men, What the heck are you thinking...

For those of you who don't know, I'm a single mother of three daughters and for the most part, I've protected yet taught them to be very independent.  But I am a mother so my motherly instincts always are in full effect.  Recently, my oldest daughter came home to tell me that a situation happened at work and although I wanted to right away rescue her, I had to step back and see how things played out.

She works for a gym part-time until she goes back to school.   Her immediate supervisor is a man, slightly older than her but not by much.  Whenever he is speaking to her, he stands in her personal space, and more than often makes cruel inappropriate comments to her.  After maybe a dozen times of him being inappropriate with her, she finally speaks to her district manager in regards to what is going on and how he is making her feel.  Now note I've taught my daughter's to know the difference between someone doing something and not being aware of it, so to always give them the benefit of doubt before coming to conclusions.  So for her to say something to their district manager, means it got pretty bad and she knew she couldn't handle it herself.

When she explained and gave examples to the district manager, he himself felt that what this manager was doing was inappropriate and spoke to him as a manager should.  The Operations Manager of the gym decided to cut my daughter's hours to one day a week, and then had a conversation with her telling her that he wasn't comfortable with her there and Fired her.  When she told me this, I just about flipped out, I told her what he did was against the Law and that the last time someone did this to her at an even bigger corporation, we decided to let it go.  But this time I will not allow her to walk away and let this little dweeb get away with it.  I wanted her to call her HR department and talk to EEO and actually file a complaint on retaliation against him.  Of course, the district manager got involved and told the Operations Manager, that my daughter was not fired and to put her back on the schedule.  Was I happy with this NO!  They put her only on nights as to avoid said manager, but this does not fix the problem.  Apparently, this manager speaks and is inappropriate to all the women working at the gym, two women transferred to another gym to avoid this manager and now my daughter's scheduled was cut and changed to accommodate this manager.

Why won't this company fix the real problem and Fire this manager?  How many complaints or inappropriate behavior needs to happen before a big corporation does its job and follows the law.  EEO is very clear about retaliation towards an employee but instead companies like this prey on the fact that maybe people need a job more than they need an issue at work, so they accommodate the manager and not the employee.  I will continue to push her to file the complaint so that there is documentation on what happened here.  Should anyone have advice or suggestions on how we should go about fixing this problem, not just with my daughter but anyone's daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandma...Please comment below.




Men, what the heck are you thinking? Remember it was a woman that brought you into this world, a woman that raised you, a woman that made sure you were brought up with respect and dignity.  Don't keep disappointing the woman in your life by acting like an idiot at work!
